All School Field Trip

The all school field trip that was announced in the fall is quickly approaching!  On Monday, March 26, ALL JEFFERSON JETS will attend a performance of Seussical Jr. at the Cherry Hill Theater in Canton, MI.  This delightful musical weaves several stories from Dr. Seuss into an imaginative, colorful, and entertaining story where Horton the elephant tries to hatch his egg while protecting the Who’s in Whoville.  The cost for tickets and transportation will be $10 per person.  K-2 grade classrooms will have 3 chaperones and 3-5 grade classrooms will have 2 chaperones.  A letter and permission slip will be sent home after mid-winter break.  Payment will be due by March 5.  This field trip provides a perfect opportunity to celebrate all of the reading that will take place during March is Reading Month!

Many families joined us for our Family Math Night.  We enjoyed a pizza dinner followed by some information about our new math program, Math in Focus.  Following this, families played some fun math games and were even able to take some home.  Thank you to everyone who participated to make this wonderful event such a success!

Happy 50s Day!

Jefferson Elementary Annual Report

We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER), which provides key information on the 2010-2011 educational programs for the South Redford School District and our schools. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and some of the state laws. See Annual Report.

Blessings in a Backpack

Stan Curtis, a former professional golfer and the founder of "Blessings in a Backpack", initiated this program because teachers noticed children from low-income families at their schools, who were on a free or reduced lunch program, would return to school on Mondays tired, hungry and sluggish. They realized there was little or no food for them to eat at home on the weekends.

"Blessings in a Backpack" provides low-income students a backpack filled with enough food for 3 meals a day during the weekend. Jefferson Elementary, principal, Deborah Greenwood has been instrumental in bringing "Blessings in a Backpack" to South Redford School DistrictBlessings in a
Backpack, Michigan is made possible through community partnerships. The North Wood Community Foundation, Meijer stores and a committee of concerned citizens, partner with local school districts to expand this program within the state.
