The festival provides an opportunity for Middle School students to perform solo and chamber ensembles for critique and evaluation by an expert in the field of music education. Students are evaluated in the areas of tone, intonation, rhythm, technique and interpretation. Students are awarded ratings based on their performance from first division (superior) through fifth division (poor).
Every Pierce Middle School student who performed earned either a first division or second division rating for their performance.
A special thank you and acknowledgement goes out to Michelle Baker for her work as accompanist for our soloists.
Congratulations to all of our performers!
Pierce Seeks Parent Partnerships to Promote Positive BehaviorPierce staff is seeking parent involvement for the Positive Behavior Support Parent Committee. Parents and guardians interested in becoming involved with the PBS Parent Committee should contact Jeff Roth at (313) 937-8880, extension 1701, or rothje01@southredford.net.
Positive Behavior Support, PBS is a nationally recognized behavior intervention program that has been successful in transforming thousands of schools throughout the country. The main goal of PBS is to promote positive behaviors and prevent or avoid disciplinary consequences by teaching and rewarding students for engaging in positive behaviors. Since Pierce Middle School implemented the PBS in 2009, the following modifications have been implemented: 1. Weekly/monthly raffles and “reward” activities
2. All students were issued “signature” cards are used to track negative behavior in a timely and organized manner.
3. The “tardy card” is used as a systematic way of tracking and reducing the frequency of tardiness.
Box Tops for Education
Please turn in Box Tops in the drop box located in the front office. Remember to include your name, grade and 1st hour classroom teacher so we know where to send a token of appreciation for participating.
If every Pierce student brought in 10 Box Tops a month we could bring in $780.00 a month for PBS. Our goal for the 2011-12 school year is $2500.00 for PBS. Please keep those Box Tops coming.

Pierce Students Get ConnectedPierce student can now use Student Connection to view their student data. Student Connection is a web application that provides students with direct access to their data via the Internet while at home or school. Students will be able to view their data, such as assignments, attendance, progress reports, report cards and transcripts. Pierce students received their PIN and password to access Zangle’s StudentConnection in late September.
Students who have forgotten their PIN and password should check with Mrs. Watroba in the Pierce Front Office. New students will receive a mailing from the South Redford Data Services Department, which will include their PIN and password. The Student Connection link can be found on the Pierce website under the Student Resource tab, or under Resource Links section under the Calendar of Events. In addition, a step-by-step instruction sheet on how to use Student Connection is available to assist student in using Student Connection. See Student Connection Instructions. Team Nutrition In middle school you have more say in deciding things for yourself. You can also help to make your school healthier. There's a lot you can do to get more healthy food choices and more opportunities for physical activity for everyone.
We are reaching out, not only to Pierce Middle School students, but also to our teachers, principals, parents, and food service manager, Mrs. Carrie Morfino. Working together is the best way to make your school healthier. When you get involved, you have a say in what decisions are made. That's better than letting others make all the decisions for you, right?
What can you do? You can join Team Nutrition. As a member you can greatly influence and help make important healthy changes in our school. For example:
- How about a healthy eating or physical activity challenge between grades?
- Start a survey or petition to figure out what new after school sports or activities
your school could offer that kids will like.
- What snacks and beverages are offered in your school store or vending machines?
Could they be healthier?
USDA's (United States Dairy Association) Food and Nutrition Service is providing these resources under its Team Nutrition initiative to help you bring everyone together to promote student wellness and prevent childhood obesity.
Applications for Team Nutrition can be obtained from Ms. Schwemmin. |
