The Department of Student Services is committed to supporting the diverse academic, emotional, social and behavioral needs of students by collaborating with students, families, and school personnel to provide services that empower students to become active, successful, and contributing members of society through the continuous development of their individual strengths and abilities.
Services:
The South Redford School District offers quality special education programs and services through a continuum of student success models, including co-teaching, behavior intervention, teacher consultant services, resource support, speech and language services, school social work/counseling services, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and center program placements for students with low incidence handicapping conditions whose needs cannot be met in the District. Our primary focus is maximizing services to students within the least restrictive environment to support their access to and success within the core curriculum. At the secondary level, special education staff work with students to develop transition plans to support their post-secondary vision. A transition plan is the section of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) that outlines transition goals and services for the student. The transition plan is based on a high school student's individual needs, strengths, skills, and interests. Transition planning is used to identify and develop goals which need to be accomplished during the current school year to assist the student in meeting his/her post-high school goals.

For additional information on the program, please contact the Department of Student Services at 313 535-4000, ext.1028.
Speech and language services are provided to our young students who require some support to encourage the development of age appropriate articulation, receptive language, and expressive language skills. Services are provided at on-site at Shear by a teacher of the speech and language impaired. For additional information on these services, please contact the Department of Student Services at 313 535-4000, ext.1028.
