5h Annual Turkey Trot Draws a Crowd

Now in its fifth year, the annual Turkey Trot is a standing district tradition that is scheduled for the first Friday in November.  The fun-filled event is held at the Thurston Athletic Stadium to promote exercise and healthy life styles for South Redford students and their families.  The event is a crowd pleaser with special visits from the glitzy-glamour Turkey and Ace, the ARAMARK mascot.
Fisher Hosts Community Leadership Forum

Last week, Fisher Elementary invited community leaders to Fisher Elementary to discuss ways to improve services to Fisher students and families. Principal, Brian Galdes comments, “Elementary schools are the heart of the community.  The doors of Fisher Elementary are open from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. our facility is used by residents of our community. Fisher Elementary is the nucleus of the community." 
Thurston Students Recipients of the AP Scholar Awards

Administrators of Thurston High School are proud to announce the news of fifteen (15) students at Lee M. Thurston High School who have earned the designation of AP Scholar Awards by the College Board. The AP Scholar Awards are presented to students in recognition of the exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program® (AP®) Exams.  Assistant Principal, Bill Simms comments, “We are very proud of the accomplishments of our students who choose to challenge themselves with the most rigorous courses available.  These AP Scholars serve as an inspiration and as role models for our students in applying themselves at the highest academic levels.”

Thurston High School Listed in Top Schools in the Nation

Redford, Michigan – Congratulations are in order for Thurston High School. For the second consecutive year, Thurston has made the NEWSWEEK Magazine Challenge Index listing of the top high schools in the nation.  Thurston was one of thirty-one schools in the state to make the list and ranked 1,320 in the nation.
Thurston Students Slated to Witness 44th Presidential Inauguration

Juniors and seniors from Thurston High School have the opportunity to witness history in the making by attending the 44th Presidential Inauguration this January. Over 40 students have registered so far.
