Vandenberg Wins Grant and Teams Up with Detroit Lions for Healthier School

Congratulations to Vandenberg Elementary of South Redford School District on receiving the 2009 Team Nutrition Grant and the Michigan Team Nutrition Training Grant. The purpose of the grant is to expand and enhance training programs that incorporate and implement the 2005 Dietary Guidelines American (DGQ) and USDA Foods in meals served under child nutrition program. The grant recipients were invited to participate in the Kick-Off to School Health Summit at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, on Tuesday, September 22, 2009.

South Redford Offers Kids Care Program

South Redford offers childcare services through the Kids' Care Program to parents who are in need of childcare services before and after school. The Kids' Care Program is available to all elementary school age children in grades K-5 enrolled in South Redford Schools.
 
The Kid's Care Program is available at Addams, Jefferson, and Shear Early Childhood Center. The Shear location services students from Fisher and Vandenberg.  Kids' Care Program offers a variety of supervised activities including free playtime, art projects, and quiet time for homework.

Vandenberg Safety Squad Honored for Serving Others

Forty-one Vandenberg Elementary Safety Squad students participated in the end of the year field trip to Beech Lanes this week.  The field trip recognizes and rewards students for their volunteer services throughout the year.  Safety Squad coordinators and teachers, Allyson Wills and Ryan Robertson encourage student participation and establish guidelines for the Safety Squad volunteers. Vandenberg fourth and fifth graders learn vital life lessons through the Safety Squad Service experience including helping others, being dependable and teamwork.  See  Photos
Generosity of Local Business Rewards Students for Volunteering

Redford, Michigan -   The end of the school year brings extra activities, banquets and field trips, but due to economic hardships many students are not able to participate in the events. However, through the generosity of Beech Lanes of Redford Township students of the Vandenberg Elementary Safety Squad will attend a field trip to Beech Lanes in recognition of their volunteer services.
